In a cardiac emergency, minutes count. And you need a team you can trust.
During a heart attack, it’s important to get treatment as soon as possible so that blood flow can be quickly restored.
That’s why Adventist Health Sonora has assembled an experienced team to deliver high-quality heart care and invested in the latest advanced imaging and catheterization equipment for our two cardiac catheterization suites.
We’ve also earned state licensing and certification to offer percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), a non-surgical procedure that opens blockages using a stent. This means that most people experiencing a heart attack in the Mother Lode will no longer need to be transported far from home for this lifesaving treatment.
With our central location in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Foothills, we’re improving outcomes by reducing the time for residents to receive PCI during an active heart attack by as much as an hour or more. And through our strong partnerships with larger hospitals that offer open-heart surgery, our patients have direct access to more specialized care should the need arise.

A wide range of services for your heart health
Managing a cardiac condition can feel overwhelming. We’re here to help with a dedicated team that has specialized training, years of experience and a passion for bringing better heart health within reach.
Services For Your Heart
Care from a highly skilled team
We’ve expanded our team of experienced physicians to include board-certified and fellowship-trained interventional cardiologists who not only diagnose and provide medical care for a range of cardiac conditions but also provide cardiac catheterization procedures to treat blockages and occlusions right here in Sonora.
As part of this service expansion, we’ve provided specialized cardiac training for our teams in the emergency department and intensive care unit, as well as our local EMS teams, so they are well-prepared to care for more complex cardiac conditions.
Advanced imaging
Our providers use nuclear imaging to see how blood flow differs at rest and during exercise in a process called a stress test. This test is used to determine whether specific areas of the heart are receiving enough blood.
Our providers also use cardiac computed tomography (CT) to visualize the heart and associated blood vessels. This scan creates a 3D image of your heart so that your doctor can look for any abnormalities.
Echocardiogram, or cardiac ultrasound, is another test our providers use to detect heart disease and other conditions.
Anticoagulation clinic
Staff at the Live Well Be Well Center’s anticoagulation clinic are experts in blood thinning medications and monitor patients taking drugs such as warfarin and Coumadin. The clinic schedules one-on-one consultations for blood testing and patient education, providing peace of mind to patients and their physicians by ensuring medications are taken properly and at the right dose.
Cardiac rehabilitation
Our cardiac rehabilitation program uses a combination of education and exercise to help patients with cardiovascular disease return to a more active life. Participants gain confidence, strength and stamina safely through guided exercise with continual heart monitoring to detect arrythmia and other EKG changes. The goal is to restore each patient to their optimal activity level.
Diabetes Resource Center
Left untreated, diabetes can damage the heart and lead to cardiovascular disease. The Diabetes Resource Center begins by assessing glucose levels, medications, exercise, eating habits, sleep patterns, stress levels and lifestyles. The result is a customized plan tailored to each patient’s unique needs, combined with caring support that creates a real difference in improving health and quality of life for the patients they serve.
Emergency cardiac care
Our emergency team stands ready, day and night, to care for any medical crisis. Working closely with our interventional cardiologists and cardiac catheterization team, emergency providers can quickly diagnose a cardiac emergency and move the patient just down the hall for catheterization to open blockages and restore blood flow to the heart. This expanded heart care service is the first of its kind in our foothill region and is another way that Adventist Health Sonora is bringing lifesaving care close to home.
Lipid Resource Center
The specialized team at the Lipid Resource Center can help you take control of your cholesterol. Anyone with cholesterol levels out of healthy range, patients with diabetes and those taking cholesterol medication benefit from this program. The Lipid Resource Center offers ongoing follow-up, continued monitoring of lipid panel results and extensive education to help you protect your health by achieving better control of your cholesterol.
Heart Failure Resource Center
Heart failure management requires a team effort. Staff at the Heart Failure Resource Center work closely with each patient and their physicians to help patients control heart failure. Patients referred to this program receive follow-up care for as long as needed with help including medication management, dietary recommendations and other lifestyle changes.
Superior technology
Our high-tech heart care includes innovations that allow our cardiologists to diagnose and treat a range of cardiovascular conditions. Our cardiac catheterization labs are equipped with advanced fluoroscopy machines that provide high-quality images, assisting the physicians in locating blockages and placing stents, pacemakers, defibrillators, monitors and other implantable devices that can help hearts keep the beat for years to come.
